Building Strategic Clarity and Capability Through a Theory of Change Workshop
Power Community Limited 2026-08-07 17-10-39

Client Summary

Power Community Limited, the community arm of the Port Adelaide Football Club, harnesses the power of sport, brand and positive role models to help Australian children and young people build skills, resilience and connection. As its programs grew, the organisation needed a validated Theory of Change spanning all of its work, a program-level logic for its flagship Community Youth Program, and a shared team understanding of how to advocate for and evolve these programs.

Challenge

Power Community Limited’s leadership wanted more than a set of documents — they wanted to build lasting strategic clarity and confidence across the team, in a single well-facilitated day, that could carry through to program design, evaluation and funding conversations.

Our Approach

Giving Connect’s approach included:

  • Conducted a literature review, three stakeholder consultations and a pre-workshop survey to prepare a bespoke session.
  • Facilitated a full-day Theory of Change workshop with representatives from across Power Community Limited’s programs and interventions.
  • Co-designed and validated an organisation-wide Theory of Change and a dedicated Theory of Change for the Community Youth Program, aligned to Australian and international evidence and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Measured the shift in team confidence and capability using pre- and post-workshop surveys.
  • Delivered 12 structured recommendations spanning co-design, storytelling, measurement, accessibility and revenue diversification.ctice.

Outcome & Impact

Our work resulted in the following outcomes for the client:

  • 100% of workshop participants reported the session improved their understanding of, and willingness to advocate for, the Community Youth Program.
  • Participants reporting they felt “very comfortable” advocating for the program rose from 5 to 8 of the 8 attendees over the course of the day.
  • A validated organisation-wide Theory of Change and a validated program-level Theory of Change, aligned to the SDGs and relevant government strategy.
  • A structured set of 12 recommendations to strengthen impact, storytelling, measurement and revenue diversification.

“Our programs at Power Community are making a genuine impact, but as we continued to expand and scale, we needed a more formalised, evidence-based approach to bring consistency to how our work creates change and align it to collective impact with our partners and funders.

Giving Connect did exactly that, facilitating a validated organisation Theory of Change and a dedicated logic model for implementation across our programs, plus practical recommendations covering co-design, storytelling, measurement and revenue diversification. The whole process gave our team shared clarity and the confidence to advocate for our programs, grounded in evidence and ready to support the next stage of our growth.
